Achieving Our Patent
The Decision Easy system is a unique ‘business process’ that is patented. Achieving our patent was no small order with business processes closely scrutinised by IP Australia for proof of innovation and a ‘tradeable’ invention.
We applied for our patent in October 2006 and after much communication with IP Australia and our patent attorneys we were granted our patent in February 2009.
Standards and Guidelines
There are currently no Legislated Standards in Australia relating to the designing of home to incorporate Ageing in Place or Universal Design principles.
To produce information for people about their homes that is accurate and useful we created a database of Standards and Guidelines to base our audits on.

The database created is updated regularly with current and relevant data from all Australian Building Codes, Australian Standards, Council By-laws and industry best practice information.
How does the Decision Easy process work?
By planning ahead and making necessary changes over time, Decision Easy clients are able to prevent future safety, security, access and independence issues that may prevent them from remaining in their own home.
The service can best be described in 6 easy steps:
A service to suit your needs – We have a range of different audits for you to choose from depending on your circumstances and budget and we can also combine all audits into one for a thorough overview of your home.
Home Consultation - A certified representative will perform the audit you have selected at a time convenient to you. Family members are encouraged to be present to ask questions and discuss any concerns with the Decision Easy representative.
Audit Report – A report will be prepared form the data collected, specific to your home, including all the issues you may consider changing to improve your home.
Recommendations and Building Solutions - The aim of our audits is to give you the information needed to decide if you want to modify your home or if a better option is to consider moving.
Our Recommendations Audit is a combination of the four smaller audits;
Safety and Security
Access and Independent Living
Health, Wellbeing and Sustainability
Social Interaction and Recreation.
If you have had a full Recommendations Audit completed our representative will return with the report and discuss the results with you.
You decide - You then make a decision if you will make any changes and if so to what extent and when.
Once you have reviewed the Report and decided you will make changes to your home we can then provide you with a Building Solutions Report detailing how to go about making the changes. This report includes dimensions and diagrams for easy reference.
Modifications can be made in stages with our reports acting as a planning tool.
Support and Advice – Decision Easy consultants will be available to offer independent support and advice during the construction and actual modification stage of your property.
Consultation Categories
Every Decision Easy appraisal is individually tailored and unique in its results. The appraisal is performed from two distinct perspectives.
The first area of consideration is the home itself. The review of your home clearly and specifically identifies all those issues that may prevent you from successfully remaining there as long as you choose.
The second perspective allows for your needs to be identified. Decision Easy has developed a series of categories related to functional ability to ensure that the information provided is relevant to your personal circumstances and needs.
The Categories to which audits are currently carried out are as follows:
Category One describes a home that meets the needs of a person who has good mobility, is active and independent with no special requirements. This category concentrates on planning ahead to make your home more suitable in the future and also emphasises making your home safer with a view to preventing potentially life changing accidents.
Category Two describes a home that meets the needs of a person who has decreasing or limited mobility and other functional needs. The resident may rely on the use of a mobility aid such as a walking frame or wheelchair. Access and independence form a major part of this category together with safety and wellbeing issues.
Category Three describes a home that meets the needs of a person with major mobility issues and requires increased, if not total, assistance and support from external sources.
The appraisal category to be performed will be established with you prior to the inspection. Decision Easy can help you decide which category will best suit your circumstances and we are happy to consider any input from family, doctors, occupational therapist etc. during this process.
Privacy and protection of data is paramount with all information collected encrypted when transferring to the main database and all personal details treated according to the Privacy Act.
