Access and Independent Living
Most of us take moving around our home, garden and neighbourhood and completing daily chores for granted.
For our elderly parents or loved ones this may not be the case however. As they age they may be finding normal tasks more difficult and if they now rely on a mobility aid moving around some areas of their home may becoming increasingly taxing.
To remain in their own home as they age, maintaining as much independence as possible is a must.
Access
For anyone who has every tried to move furniture up a small staircase or push a pram through a narrow doorway you have experienced a glimmer of the frustration of not having an accessible home. For someone who has difficulty moving around or relies on the use of a mobility aid that frustration is a daily battle.
If your parent of loved one is living in a home that is not accessible and is hindering there independence this audit can show you a range of changes they could make to their home to increase their mobility and allow them to look after themselves and their home in the years to come.
Independent Living

Independence relates to physical mobility but also to regulating and controlling the home environment and the design of the home can either help or hamper this.
Independent Living also relates to issues of financial independence and control of lifestyle. The choice of fixtures, fittings and materials that are durable and sustainable all effect long term financial independence and make up an important aspect of this audit.
Knowing how to make your loved ones home more accessible and in turn enhancing their independence as they age will allow them to Age in Place as long as they choose.
