Safety and Security

The safety and Security of our parents or loved ones in their own home can be a worrying and stressful concern.
As they age they are more prone to accidents and injuries and do not heal as quickly or as well and this can result in them not being able to take care of themselves properly.

This audit deals with all those issues related to keeping our loved ones free from harm for both injury, illness and intruders. The emphasis is on prevention and making changes to their home to keep them active, healthy and independent.

Safety

Sixty percent of the falls in people 70 and over that require hospitalisation occur in the home. An elderly person that has a fall is twice as likely to fall again within the same year.

For an elderly person a fall or injury can have a far greater impact on their health and independence than on a younger person, to the point, in many cases, where it becomes a traumatic life changing event where they can no longer look after themselves in their own home and are forced to move into care or other accommodation.

Removing safety threats around the home can assist in preventing these injuries and ensure that you parents or loved ones will stay active and healthy for as long as possible.

Preventing injury is the only way to protect our families members from traumatic and painful life decisions that they and you would rather not make.

Security

Older people quite often feel vulnerable in the community and in their own homes. Making your loved ones home secure both physically and psychologically can greatly reduce the stress and worry for both them and you.

This audit not only looks at the issues of securing the home but also the issue of how your families members can get out in the case of emergency and how emergency services can get in. We have all heard of cases where elderly people have locked themselves in their home and then not been able to get out in the case of fire.
